The Cabinet has granted approval for a four-year implementation of eCourts Phase III.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has granted approval for the implementation of Phase III of the eCourts Project. This project, categorized as a Central Sector Scheme, is scheduled to run for a duration of four years, starting from 2023 onwards. The financial allocation for this initiative amounts to a substantial Rs. 7,210 crore.

Aligned with the vision of the esteemed Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, emphasizing “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas,” the eCourts Mission Mode Project takes center stage in advancing access to justice through technology. As an integral component of the National eGovernance Plan, the e-Courts Project has been in progress since 2007, actively enhancing the use of information and communication technology within the Indian Judiciary. The successful conclusion of Phase II occurred in 2023. Phase III of the e-Courts Project in India is deeply rooted in the principles of “access and inclusion,” prioritizing equitable access to justice for all.

Building upon the achievements of Phase-I and Phase-II, e-Courts Phase-III aims to elevate the pursuit of utmost judicial convenience. This involves a shift towards digitalization, online proceedings, and the establishment of paperless courts. This transformation encompasses the comprehensive digitization of all court records, including historical data, along with the widespread adoption of e-Filing and e-Payments through the saturation of court complexes with e-Sewa Kendras. The initiative will also introduce intelligent, data-driven systems that facilitate informed decision-making by judges and registries when it comes to case scheduling and prioritization. The central goal of Phase-III is to construct a unified technological platform for the judiciary, fostering a seamless and paperless interaction among the courts, litigants, and all other stakeholders.

The eCourts Phase III Centrally Sponsored Scheme is a collaborative endeavor carried out in partnership between the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, and the eCommittee of the Supreme Court of India. This initiative operates in a decentralized fashion, with the active participation of individual High Courts. Its overarching goal is to advance the judicial system, fostering accessibility, affordability, reliability, predictability, and transparency for all stakeholders, thereby enhancing the ease of obtaining justice.
